5 Must-Pack Items for Your Trail Ride
Written by Jess Lindell, Marketing Manager
Sometimes you get home from work and just hit the trail, forgetting everything but the saddle on your horse’s back.
But other trail rides call for a little bit more prep. Most of the rides you’ll be going on at Hay Creek will be long, and being prepared means you’ll have peace of mind to enjoy your adventure.
We asked riders for their must-have items they always bring on a long trail ride. Here’s what they said:
1: Water
Pretty obvious right? So obvious you might forget it. Stash more than you’ll think you’ll need in your saddle bag in case your ride goes longer than you planned.
The good news is your horse will be well hydrated, as you’ll likely be crossing creeks multiple times throughout your ride at Hay Creek.
2: Phone
Charge up your phone and have it accessible during your ride. It’ll serve as your camera, trail map (check out these apps), GPS, and of course, phone.
3: Sun Protection
You’ll be out in the sun for a long time, so pick your preferred method of sun protection- sunscreen, long-sleeve shirt, hat, sunglasses. If you need a shirt or hat for your ride, we have some in the shop!
4: Snacks
One rancher’s favorite trail snack is jerky. It’s an easy protein option that packs well. Other riders like bringing electrolyte powder pouches to mix with their water, trail mix, and granola bars.
5: Hoof Pick
This is a small tool that could easily help your horse if they get a pebble crammed up in their hoof. And speaking of hooves, we recommend your horses are fully shoed for riding at Hay Creek.
We have a full list of all the gear we recommend for both you and your horse to bring with for your Hay Creek Adventure. Print it here.
